Emma Wolf & Mason Gray

Emma Wolf and Mason Gray

NAME: Emma Gail Wolf

AGE: I am 16 years of age.

WHEN DID YOU START DANCING? I started dancing at the age of four and wow was I good.

DANCE TRAINING: I have been on Fired Up Dance Academy’s company, as well as NW Fusion. I have attended intensives within Fired Up, and conventions through NYCDA, 5678 Show Time, and The Pulse on Tour Bellevue.

FAVORITE STYLE OF DANCE: I love love love jazz.

WHY DO YOU DANCE? I dance because it’s what I love. Performing is the best feeling in the world and the friends I make are lifelong.

DO YOU HOPE TO PURSUE DANCE AS A CAREER? I will most likely not pursue dance as a career, however I plan on keeping it as a part of my life forever.

BEST DANCE MEMORY: My best dance memory is probably when I was in 7th grade and I danced at 5678 Showtime. The convention instructors were Phillip Attmore, Philip Philips, and Alex Wong. The three of them unanimously named me the Dancer of the Year. I won a scholarship to dance in Paris and they nicknamed me “The Girl in the Glasses”. It was one of the best weekends of my life!

“You have to love dancing to stick to it. It gives you nothing back, no manuscript to store away, no painting to show on walls and maybe hang on museums, no poems to be printed and sold, nothing but that fleeting moment when you feel alive. It is not for the unsteady souls.”

NAME: Mason Rose Gray

AGE: I recently turned 15 years old.

WHEN DID YOU START DANCING? I have been dancing since the age of 2, which might seem ridiculous, but I mean those mommy and me classes did me well.

DANCE TRAINING: I have also been been a part of Fired Up’s competition team up until last year when I joined NW Fusion. I have been in many intensives though Fired Up, and once I was selected as an Outstanding Dancer to go to NYCDA’s National Summer Intensive in New York! I’ve attended countless conventions and competitions, both of which I enjoy.

FAVORITE STYLE OF DANCE: My favorite style is either ballet or contemporary.

WHY DO YOU DANCE? I dance because it is something I can make goals for myself and see improvements. Another huge reason is because of the natural high I feel when I perform, that’s honestly the greatest thing ever. The people I meet are like family to me now and I hope will stay in touch over the course of my life.

DO YOU HOPE TO PURSUE DANCE AS A CAREER? That’s a huge dream of mine. I hope to dance in college and throughout the rest of my life.

BEST DANCE MEMORY: My best dance memory was when I was in New York, at NYCDA Nationals. I finished my solo and ran off stage into the wings. I just remember looking back at the stage and bawling before even catching my breath from the dance. It was such a cool thing, like I was so overfilled with joy that I couldn’t help but cry. And the best part was that I knew I had no shot at winning, but I was still that happy. As cliché as this sounds, I think that’s what dance has really taught me in life; that you may never be the best, but if you keep going and keep trying that’s when you are the happiest.
